Russia's Melon, Watermelon Imports On Six-Year Decrease



According to a report compiled by the Intesco Research Group “The Fresh Vegetables, Fruit and Berries Market”, the quantity of melons and watermelons imported into Russia has been decreasing for the last six years.
In 2014 these products were mainly supplied by Russia’s Astrakhan and Volgograd regions, the Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Dagestan and amounted to 1.4 million tonnes. In 2012 and 2013, the quantity of melons was relatively the same.
Currently, melon and watermelon exports arrive from Iran, China and Uzbekistan. However, in 2014, the volume of shipments fell by 30 percent in comparison to the previous year.
